The National Association of REALTORS® designated May as Advocacy Month. Advocacy is an essential part of why our association exists and is the #1 strategic goal of Virginia REALTORS®. With that in mind, here are some recent highlights of our collective advocacy efforts and how you can be involved.

NAR kicked off Advocacy Month, hosting its annual Legislative Conference where thousands of REALTORS® converged in the Washington D.C. area to learn about pressing issues and engage with federal lawmakers.

NAR’s legislative priorities push this year’s focus on policies to help address the inventory shortages we see across the country. You can learn more about NAR’s advocacy efforts on its website.

At the state level, Virginia REALTORS® had a successful 2022 General Assembly Session, with our legislative agenda earning a collective 1,386 “yes” votes to only 4 “no” votes on final passage.

Included in those victories is the passage of legislation to allow the Virginia REALTORS® to move forward in our pursuit of potentially offering you health care coverage through a REALTOR® large group health care plan. Remember, this is the first step in a process, so check out more information on our REALTOR® health insurance resource page.

Whether it is responding to our calls for action, meeting legislators in Richmond during a Hill visit, volunteering on a state or local association committee, or talking to your colleagues about our issues, your efforts make a major impact on success.

And of course, the REALTORS® Political Action Committee of Virginia plays a critical role in this process. You can learn more about RPAC on our website. You will need to login to our website to see the RPAC information because federal rules require certain information to be behind a firewall.

If you have any questions or thoughts on our government relations activities, feel free to email us at advcoacy@virginiarealtors.org. Again, thank you for everything you do to make our Association advocacy efforts a success.
