Have You Created Your Rent Relief Account Yet?
October 9, 2020
Last month, Virginia expanded the Rent and Mortgage Relief Program through Virginia Housing (formerly the Virginia Housing Development Authority) to allow landlords to apply for rent relief on behalf of qualifying tenants. We highly encourage you to set up your account profile with Virginia Housing now, even if you do not have an immediate application. Setting up your profile now will help you process applications for your tenants quicker.
This week, because of high demand, Governor Northam directed an additional $12 million in CARES Act funding to the program on top of the initial $50 million. Our team is working with the legislature to include more resources in the next state budget.
Applications for rent relief must be submitted by November 15, 2020. We will continue to provide you with updates on the RMRP as things develop.
