Think Before You Post on Social Media
July 24, 2020
Given the current climate of our world, stumbling upon negativity on social media isn’t unusual. Social media is a powerful tool and can be harmful to your business if you aren’t considerate with what you’re posting. Be mindful that past AND potential clients can see your social media activity. Thinking before you post can spare you some embarrassment and future backlash. It can also work wonders for business if used in the right way. Here are some things to consider when posting to social media:
- Think carefully about what others may find offensive. Before you post something, ask yourself: Would this post offend someone? Does it matter to me if it does? If you answered yes, you probably shouldn’t post.
- Being controversial online. More and more people are engaged online and are speaking up about what’s happening in the world. It’s good because people are conscious of what’s going on but be sure to stay away from things like hate speech, threatening others, or speaking badly about people. A good and positive reputation is vital to your career.
- Screenshots, screenshots, screenshots. Let’s say you posted something that was offensive and then you decide to delete it. Just because you’ve deleted it doesn’t mean it’s gone. Someone could have taken a screenshot and shared it with others. Taking something back on social media is not as easy as you think it is. Consider everything you say or do on social media as permanent.
- Use your social media to spread positivity. There’s enough negativity in the world, so take a little time to spread kindness. Your dose of positivity to your social media could brighten someone’s day.
Remember: What happens on the internet stays on the internet.
