How Virginia’s 2020 Primary Elections Have Adjusted Due to COVID-19
June 5, 2020
To help protect voters during the COVID-19 pandemic, Virginia moved the 2020 Primary Elections from June 9th to June 23rd. Because of that move, the new deadline to request a vote-by-mail absentee ballot is now 5:00 pm on Tuesday, June 16th. You can request and track your absentee ballot status on the Department of Elections Voter Information website.
Additionally, the Department of Elections has loosened some requirements to request an absentee ballot for this election. You may choose reason “2A My disability or illness” if you have concerns about COVID-19 with in-person voting. The Department also waived the witness signature requirement if you think the presence of a witness may increase your exposure to COVID-19.
The purpose of the Primary Elections is to nominate respective Democratic and Republican candidates to run in the November General Election, so not every locality will hold an election on June 23rd. You can find the official candidate list here.
While the National Association of REALTORS® PAC doesn’t get into every political race, NAR RPAC is supporting Congressman Donald McEachin in the 4th Congressional District and Congressman Gerry Connolly in the 11th Congressional District in the June Primary Elections.
