The Votes Are in… Now What?
November 14, 2019
By: Vice President of Political Operations, Anthony Reedy
A new legislative session is an opportunity to show “Who We R.”
Now that last week’s ballots have been counted, your Virginia REALTORS® Government Relations team is hard at work, strategizing how to make YOUR voice heard with both new legislators and familiar faces alike.
First, while we’ll be working with dozens of new members of the General Assembly, there are several members who either practice real estate or work in a related field. There are four members of the House of Delegates and two state Senators who are REALTORS® or affiliate members. Others have immediate family members who are REALTORS® or are professionals, such as attorneys, giving them practical understanding of our issues. We will build on these connections to strengthen our effectiveness.
Second, since RPAC and the REALTOR® Party is non-partisan, we’ve been able to develop strong working relationships with legislators across the political spectrum.
However, our biggest asset is YOU. The unified voice of nearly 35,000 REALTORS® is a powerful one. The insight and experience you bring as an individual real estate professional is invaluable to lawmakers. That’s why we rely on your engagement in the advocacy process.
We will continue to send you more information about our 2020 Legislative Agenda and insights on engaging the new legislature as the January Session approaches. In the meantime, feel free to email us at advocacy@virginiarealtors.org if you have any questions or thoughts about the VAR Government Relations efforts.
