Code of Ethics
REALTORS® are required to complete ethics training of not less than 2 hours, 30 min. of instructional time within a three-year cycle offered by a local or state association of REALTORS® or an online course through the National Association of REALTORS®. Your local board/association may also offer a live, in-classroom biennial ethics course. Be sure to contact your local board/association to learn about what’s available in your area.
The REALTORS® Code of Ethics is more than a conceptual guide to right and wrong.
It’s a powerful business tool that leads to more sales, more referrals and more profitable, long-standing relationships with both clients and other REALTORS®.
Because you are a REALTOR®, your clients and peers expect greater levels of professionalism and service than from others in the real estate business. A century ago, the National Association of REALTORS® established a Code of Ethics to hold us uniformly to those high expectations.
The Code is more than a list of ‘thou shalts’ and ‘thou shalt nots.’ It’s a practical guide that can help you sell more real estate. Your business cannot thrive without the trust of your clients, prospects, and associates. And trust is something you can’t simply ask for. You must earn it.
The real estate business has become increasingly competitive and complex as technology has advanced and consumers have become even more attentive to the digital real estate universe. There is more visibility and access to market information than ever before, and yet more obscurity about what it really takes to get into the right home. Your reputation as the most ethical expert is not only a hallmark of the REALTOR® brand, it’s a value proposition that you offer every client to ensure their best interests are the top priority.
