General Assembly Session 2020: Week 6 Update
February 14, 2020
The state legislature began the second half of the General Assembly Session this week as the House and Senate took up legislation that passed the other chamber.
The slight break in action gives us the chance to review the workload of the Session and provide you with a by-the-numbers snapshot of where we stand at the legislative midpoint.
- 3,286 – The number of bills and resolutions introduced in the 2020 General Assembly Session.
- 282 – The number of bills reviewed by the Virginia REALTORS® Public Policy Committee (PPC).
- 61 – The number of bills the PPC supported. As of today, 49 are still alive.
- 23 – The number of bills that the PPC recommended amending. As of today, three have been defeated and 20 are alive, but have been changed to remove our concerns.
- 13 – The number of bills the PPC opposed. As of today, 11 have been defeated, and we are working to address the remaining two bills.
- 185 – The number of bills the PPC monitored, not taking a formal position, but watching to make sure they don’t impact you or your clients.
In our legislative agenda’s first post-Crossover action, House Bill 176 reported out of the Senate General Laws and Technology Committee on a 15 to 0 vote. House Bill 176 will allow parties of a transaction in a Property Owners or Condo Owners Association to extend the 3-day review period by up to four additional days. You can follow weekly updates of our Legislative Agenda on the Virginia REALTORS® website.

Three Associations visited the Capitol this week for hill visits to support the Virginia REALTORS®’ advocacy efforts. Groups from the Eastern Shore, Rockbridge Highlands, and Richmond associations of REALTORS® trekked to Capitol Square, meeting with legislators about issues that impact you and your clients. Thanks to everyone who defied the rainy weather this week to support our efforts.
