A Special Message from Virginia REALTORS® 2024 President Tom Campbell

After 11 years at the helm of our association, VAR’s CEO Terrie Suit, MBA, CAE, has announced her retirement.

We have named Martin K. Johnson the Interim Chief Executive Officer. Many of you will be familiar with him, having previously served as our Senior Vice President of Advocacy, Chief Lobbyist, and most recently as our Chief External Affairs Officer.

Over the past 11 years, we have made significant investments in this organization.

We successfully navigated the COVID-19 pandemic by helping to ensure that real estate never ceased to operate here in the commonwealth.

We opened and now operate a second full-time office within steps of the Virginia Capital, providing our lobbying team with almost instantaneous access to law makers.

We grew out our Legal Team and now host one of the most successful REALTOR® Legal Hotlines in the United States with an average “call-back” time of around just 45 minutes.

We hired an Economist and cultivated a Research Team that will take us to the next level of data creation research and continue solidifying our role as Virginia’s trusted voice of real estate.

We built a Learning Center website to allow our members real-time access to CE and other valuable VAR resources.  Our Learning Center is the envy of many, and we have even sold classes to surrounding states.

We accepted the call from many of you and established a meaningful Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion program. We hired a Senior Vice President to oversee it, established a permanent DEI Committee, and have woven that spirit into the multitude of initiatives we undertake.

Each year, we invested money into our reserves, allowing us to continue to invest in our future as an organization.

Terrie Suit helped us build a world-class team at VAR to execute these initiatives.

We thank Terrie for her steadfast commitment to our industry and wish her the very best in her retirement.
