What You Need to Do About the New Law Coming October 1
September 3, 2019
By: Guest Author, Vice President of Political Operations, Anthony Reedy
On October 1, 2019, Virginia will repeal Code Title 55 and recodify it as 55.1.
What does that mean for you?
Not much substantially, but practically you’ll have to do some housekeeping to make sure any forms or documents you use referencing Title 55 are updated to reflect the new Code section.
The Virginia Code Commission worked over the past few years with an advisory panel of experience practitioners to reorganize and update certain sections of Virginia Law. The Virginia General Assembly enacted legislation in 2019, which will become law on October 1.
Some of the code provisions that fall within this reorganization include the Property Owners’ Association Act, the Virginia Condominium Act, and the Virginia Residential Landlord Tenant Act. The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation has more information on its website.
We encourage you to consult with your legal counsel to review pertinent documents to make sure you’re in compliance with the new law.
