Protecting Your Ability to Do Business
August 2, 2019
By: Vice President of Political Operations, Anthony Reedy
When it comes to our work in the state legislature, we usually focus on our legislative victories – bills passed that help you and your agents achieve business success.
However, defeated legislation that could have harmed how you and your agents do business is often overlooked.
In 2019, the Virginia REALTORS® stopped a bill, House Bill 2671, that would prohibit your business growth and ability to offer streamlined customer service by using affiliated businesses such as title companies and lenders.
We know how important affiliated businesses are to provide your clients with the best possible service.
In recent years we’ve defeated bills that create additional legal liability for business and property owners if a third party commits crimes on the premises. And we’ve stopped legislation that would change Virginia’s buyer beware laws by creating mandatory residential disclosures for things such as flood hazard areas and stormwater management facilities.
We know it’s tough out there. That’s why the Virginia REALTORS® and RPAC of Virginia work hard every day to defeat policies that could hurt your business
