On his first day in office, President Biden signed an executive order which extends the existing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) order regarding evictions through the end of March.

The CDC federal eviction moratorium order includes a provision that says that the order does not apply in any state with a moratorium on residential evictions that provides the same or greater levels of public-health protections.

In the fall of 2020, the Virginia General Assembly passed language during the special session that provides greater levels of protection to tenants and would control the eviction process in Virginia. Because of the protections under Virginia law, extension of the CDC Order should not have a significant impact on property managers in Virginia.
